FAQ's

What is a CPO (Charge Point Operator)?

A CPO is a company within the eMobility industry that builds electric vehicle (EV) charging sites, installs hardware from any number of electric vehicle supply equipment vendors.

A CPO has many roles including:

Management of backend charging and energy management software for EV charging stations.

Manage communications with the backend system and individual chargers.

Manage charging network infrastructure.

Ensure optimal ongoing charging operations with regular software updates, remote monitoring and fault diagnosis.

Provide consistent and reliable charging solutions to EMSPs.

What is an EVSE? (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment)

An EVSE is an organisation that supplies the eMobility industry with the required hardware to install EV charging solutions for EV drivers.

This includes hardware for home, work, multi-residential, retail, public, commercial and fleet operators.

What is an EMSP? (eMobility Service Providers)

An EMSP provides charging solutions for services to EV drivers.

Typically an EMSP manages relationships with EV drivers (the EMSP’s customers) by providing them with a web portal and a charging app.

Within this the EMSP handles payments and invoicing as well as front of house customer service.

An EMSP does not own a charging network (whereas a CPO and EVSP own and operate  a charging network).

EMSP is able to provide the service by partnering with either/or a CPO and EVSP.

The EMSP provides access to CPO/EVSP chargers via eRoaming and a EV Charging Management platform. The platform can provide services to include, payments, invoicing, analytics and further information reporting.

What is eRoaming?

eRoaming’s aims to reduce and eventually eliminate ‘EV anxiety’.

The global exponential growth of the EV industry is fuelling the progress of eRoaming.

What currently looks to be a colossal undertaking will one day be as ‘normal’ as making a mobile phone call.

Given the advantages of eRoaming the EV industry is committed to making eRoaming possible.
